Book Description: Kamp-år: minner fra mitt liv som bokser:
“Otto Von Porat” refers to the 1942 sports memoir officially titled Kamp-år: minner fra mitt liv som bokser (Years of Combat: Memories from my Life as a Boxer). Written by Otto von Porat himself, the 198-page hardcover was published in Oslo, Norway by the historic publishing house J.W. Cappelens Forlag during the German occupation of Norway.
• The Subject & Content: The book is an intimate autobiography detailing the life and athletic triumphs of Otto von Porat (1903–1982). Though born in Sweden, von Porat grew up in Oslo and went on to become a national icon as Norway’s only Olympic Gold Medalist in heavyweight boxing (won at the 1924 Paris Olympics). The memoir details his early training, his amateur dominance in Europe, and his subsequent high-profile professional career in the United States during the Golden Age of boxing.
• The Signature: A copy signed by von Porat on the title page serves as a highly desirable piece of vintage sports memorabilia, as he remains one of the most significant and heavily chronicled athletes in twentieth-century Scandinavian sports history.
• Language Note: While the book covers the life of a Swedish-born athlete and is often collected across Scandinavia, the original text published by Cappelen in Oslo is written in Norwegian (Bokmål).
