Pacheco, Ferdie ‘Muhammad Ali, A View From the Corner’ 1992 1st ed. Published by Carol Publishing Group. Fine/Fine (2) $15.00 each. Another EX-Library Good/Good $5.00.
“Muhammad Ali: A View from the Corner” by Dr. Ferdie Pacheco is an intimate, unfiltered insider biography written by the man famously known as Ali’s long-time personal physician and cornerman, the “Fight Doctor”.
Content & Narrative Overview:
Unlike traditional biographies written from a distance, Pacheco provides a raw, first-person vantage point of what he calls the “Ali Circus”—the chaotic traveling menagerie of trainers, promoter syndicates, black Muslims, wives, and hanger-ons that constantly surrounded the champion.
Pacheco details Ali’s trajectory from his early days training in Miami as Cassius Clay through the height of his world championship dominance. The book is especially valued by boxing historians for its clinical candor; it discusses the grueling toll of the fights, the inner workings of Ali’s corner operations (highlighting legendary trainer Angelo Dundee), and Pacheco’s own difficult decision to ultimately walk away from the camp in 1977 after Ali refused his medical advice to retire.
