Best Sports Stories 1953: A Panorama of the 1952 Sports Year is a highly regarded 1953 sports journalism anthology edited by Irving T. Marsh and Edward Ehre and published by E.P. Dutton & Co.. This 320-page hardcover features the year’s best sports news coverage, feature articles, and a collection of the top 30 sports photographs.
The book is famous among boxing memorabilia collectors because the front of its dust jacket features the iconic photograph of Rocky Marciano knocking out Jersey Joe Walcott. This captures the legendary September 23, 1952, championship bout where Marciano weathered a first-round knockdown to deliver his devastating “Suzie Q” right hand in the 13th round, ripping the World Heavyweight Title away from Walcott in one of the most famous moments in boxing history.
