The Blue Book of Sports: Sport Characters – Past and Present is a rare, vintage 1931 sports anthology compiled and written by Everett L. Sanders.
Published as a first edition hardcover, it serves as an extensive historical compilation documenting the prominent sports figures, achievements, and records of the early 20th century.
Key Characteristics & Content:
• Format: A substantial volume consisting of 421 pages bound in embossed cloth hardcover. It was privately printed in Los Angeles, California.
• Core Subject: The book contains a wealthy mix of photographs, biographical sketches, editorials, stories, and statistical records of legendary sports figures from the era.
• Golf Coverage: A significant portion of the book—over sixty pages—is dedicated specifically to golfer profiles and their tournament records. Notably, the book features a tribute to legendary golfer Bobby Jones, proclaiming him “The Outstanding Golfer of All Time” following his historic Grand Slam in 1930.
