Description

Mills, Freddie ‘Twenty Years’ 1959 4th ed. Nicholson & Watson LTD, 26 Manchester Square, W. 1. 212-pages. Very good in a good complete non-price clipped dust jacket. It has the handwritten name and book stamp of longtime South African boxing collector J. Karel de Vries on the frontispiece.

“Twenty Years: An Autobiography” is the personal memoir of legendary British boxer Freddie Mills (1919–1965), who famously captured the World Light-Heavyweight Championship in 1948. Published by Nicholson & Watson Ltd., this 212-page illustrated volume traces his rapid rise through the grueling British fight circuits, his fierce title bouts, and his eventual retirement after losing the crown to Joey Maxim in 1950. The book also features Mills’ personal insights into the state of the mid-century boxing game and includes 30-pages of historic black-and-white photographic plates. Mills remains a highly compelling and tragic figure in boxing lore due to his charisma as a post-career media personality and his mysterious, controversial death in Soho in 1965.
